ARTIST STATEMENT: I decided when taking my landscape pictures, to take close ups because it was hard to not include man made objects in my photographs. I like flowers because they are really pretty and nice to look at. In photoshop I increased the brightness and contrast. When taking the photo I used the rule of thirds by putting the focal point where the top left point of the grid would be. I think the the leaves create balance.
ARTIST STATEMENT: When I took this picture I also made it a close up to exclude the man made objects. My camera allows me to focus on certain points very well while making the background look blurry to extenuate the focal point. I took this by the abandoned train tracks in my neighborhood. In photoshop I increased the brightness and contrast, while making some parts a little darker as well. I like leaves.
ARTIST STATEMENT: I took these pictures when I was eating at a restaurant in Ypsilanti. I looked out the window and noticed this beautiful and colorful sunset. I had to zoom in very close because it was across the street and in front of a very ugly parking lot and car dealer place. I did extenuate the colors and contrast in the picture to make it more visually interesting in photoshop. I used asymmetrical balance.
ARTIST STATEMENT: I took this picture at my old elementary and middle school. I took it around 7:30 when the sun wasn't completely risen anymore. I like the effect of the sun being behind the leaves because it makes them look darker. In photoshop I made it a little brighter and increased the contrast. The stems act like leadings lines because they draw my eye to the focal point.
ARTIST STATEMENT: I took this picture in mid afternoon during the Water Hill music festival. I had to angle my camera really far upwards to make sure no people or houses were in it, especially because I'm kinda short. I liked the contrast between the blue sky and pink flowers. In photoshop I made it darker and further increased the contrast. I chose these flowers because I love the color.
